Bemm River and Bayside

Bemm
River is a small hamlet in East
Gippsland 441 km east of Melbourne and is well known for its bream
fishing. The
Bemm River Report has been at several web addresses since its inception
a
decade ago. The new address for the Bemm River Report is

Speaking
about fishing, the Bay (Port
Phillip) has fished well for Snapper this season. Some regular
visitors to Bemm River were amongst the many who had a good season.
The pinkies are now on the bite and the whiting have come on.

Bayside
in Melbourne, Australia, is an area which includes Brighton, Hampton,
Sandringham, Black Rock and Beaumaris. They are suburbs ranging from 10
to 20
Km southeast of Melbourne centre and most have beaches on Port Phillip
Bay.
Many of us have ignored the fishing in the bay but since the
professionals have
been restricted, it has improved out of sight. Not only snapper, but
whiting
have been caught in good numbers in the past few years.

The
Heidelberg School of Artists which
included Tom Roberts and Fred McCubbin,
made many
visits to Beaumaris and neighbouring Black Rock and Mentone to paint
their now
adored beach scenes. A monument commemorating their first encounter is
situated
near Rickets Point. Beaumaris has many parks, including the
noted Royal
Melbourne Golf Course. Beaumaris is also where Geoff Ogilivy,
one of the world’s top golfers and 2006 US Open Champion,
spent his formative
years learning the game of golf. Ogilivy
went to school
in Beaumaris for many years and still owns a house in this suburb.
